Capture

Updated 6 October 2026

1. Shortcuts

Press n anywhere in emeris, type the task, save. It lands in your Inbox. Deciding what to do with it comes later.

Two keys. n opens a new task from anywhere. ⌘K (or /) opens search.

2. Inbox

Everything you capture waits in Inbox, the first column on Tasks. Nothing is scheduled, assigned or filed until you say so.

Give an item a size and an energy and it can be scheduled. See Plan your week.

3. Email

Forward a message to one of your five capture addresses and it becomes a card. The subject is the title, the body the first note, and attachments come along. The address you pick decides the column it lands in.

Every card and project has its own address too, so you can BCC one on a live thread and the correspondence files itself.

Addresses and the full detail are in Email into emeris.

4. Bookings

The emeris bookings engine allows rapid collaboration across time zones while respecting all parties' calendars. The meeting is on your calendar as soon as it is booked.

Send a link and the page offers only slots that are genuinely free, checked against your calendars as the page loads and shown in the visitor's own timezone. Durations are 15, 25, 30, 45, 50 or 60 minutes, and the 25 and 50 options leave a gap so consecutive meetings do not run straight into each other. Nothing inside the next two hours is offered.

When someone books, emeris writes the event to your calendar with them as an attendee, and Google emails you both. A free/busy check runs again at the moment of booking, so a slot taken while they were deciding cannot be double-booked.

Each link can add a Google Meet link and can let the booker invite guests of their own. Both are off by default.

Shared links work the same way for several hosts at once. A slot appears only when it is free on every host's calendar.

Links live under Settings → Bookings. Bookings can be rescheduled or cancelled afterwards from the link in the confirmation email.

5. Third party ingestion

Any tool that can send a web request can capture for you: Zapier, Make, n8n, an iPhone Shortcut, a Slack workflow, a script. One POST with a line of text lands it in your inbox.

Recipes for each are in Connect your other tools.

6. AI assistants

Connect Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor over MCP and the assistant can capture for you, and read back your day, your week and your projects. Give it a Write token and it can triage the inbox as well.

An assistant can also run your weekly review. It reads back the inbox count, any active project with no next action, the blocked tasks, the Someday count and what you finished this week.

Setup is in Connect an AI assistant.
